Alastair Laas

Alastair Laas grew up in the industrial heart of England, known as the Black Country, where he was exposed to the multifaceted aspects of capitalism.

From humble beginnings, he worked in factories, cleaned offices, built luxury yachts, and sold insurance to art collectors, before he moved into TV and production for advertising. His professional experience provides a unique perspective on the intricacies of labor and human value that are fundamental to his vision and approach as an artist.

The projects completed have been shown at the Korean Museum Of Contemporary Art (KMCA) in Seoul, le Centre de la Gravure et de l’Image Imprimée de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, Belgium. Wuhouci Gallery and Sichuan University Fine Arts Institute in China, and Tate Modern in London. He has painted overnight at Off The Wall for Redbull, completed community projects, made work for HRH The Queen, created a VR experience for Google, made films for Diageo, Sky, and Mercedes-Benz, and automated performances at Ugly Duck and for Coca-Cola in London.
