Barry Flanagan
(1941 — 2009)
Born in North Wales in 1941, Barry Flanagan’s artistic training began at the Birmingham College of Art and Crafts. He later went onto study sculpture at Saint Martin’s School of Art in London. His ties with Saint Martin’s were not only as a student but also as a teacher from 1967 Flanagan. Flanagan later went onto teach at the Central School of Art and Design. Sadly Flanagan died in 2009 of motor neurone disease. He is now represented internationally with sculptural pieces in the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C. and the Skulpturen Pak Koln in Cologne among many others. Impressive retrospective were held by Tate Britain and Sotheby’s at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire.
