Claire Wiltsher has always been interested in painting and followed it through to Degree level as a mature student at Lancashire Polytechnic. Later, she completed a Masters in Fine Art at Northumbria University while teaching in a college.
Wiltsher works with oils and mixed media based on Landscape. Wiltsher’s intention is to capture a sense of place through depicting an atmosphere. Wiltsher builds up layers or depth and texture using fragments of collage and drawing materials over the top of the dried oil painting. Light is the focus of Wiltsher’s paintings. Turner and Pollock have been big inspirations. Wiltsher works from memory, drawings and photos to create a personal study of places that she visits. The New forest and Dorset coast are just two special places. Wiltsher loves travelling and has kept journals and sketches from around the world often on solo journeys. These provide inspiration as well as the poems that she produces, which often accompany her work.
Creative Coverage have recently published Wiltsher’s first book that is successfully selling in local Waterstones as well as on Amazon. The title “Journeys” explores the contrast between both Sea and Landscape and compares different techniques and styles.
