Daniel Rey

Daniel Rey is a Venezuelan artist living and working in London. Through installation, performance, moving image and painting, Rey’s work explores ways to challenge conventional constructs of masculinity rooted in Latin American patriarchal societies and the relationship between queer diasporic bodies and the built environment. Drawing from his background in architecture, he incorporates processes and materials from this discipline in his work, often resulting in ‘hybrid entities.’

His work invites us to imagine structures and possibilities for the emancipation of queer individuals from the constraints of society power structures. He sees his upbringing in the complexities of Venezuela as the foundation of his imagination, reflecting on the political, economic, and social turmoil the country is going through.
