Frances Broomfield

Frances Broomfield was born in Warrington, Cheshire in 1951 and attended Warrington Art School 1967- 1969 and Newport College of Art 1969 to 1972. She attended Cecil Collins life classes at Central School of Art in 1990.

 

She has exhibited almost exclusively with Portal Painters since 1977 and her work is in public and private collections worldwide.

 

Her paintings are usually 10″ x 8″ in oils and tempera on wood panels.

Illustration

Her work has been used on book covers for Cape, including Russell Hoban’s cult classic the Medusa Frequency, Bodley Head, Century Hutchinson, Little, Brown, Harvard University Press, Oxford University Press, and others. She provided the artwork for the covers of Colin Dann’s series of children’s books, The Animals of Farthing Wood and illustrated Mitchell Beazley’s The Future Now by Derek and Julia Parker.

 

Pomegranate USA have produced two calendars of her work, 2018 Frances Broomfield Alice in Wonderland and 2019 Frances Broomfield The Gardeners calendar.

 

Fred.Olsen Cruise Lines display prints of her work in cabins and public areas of their ships.
