Joshua Armitage

Josh Armitage, from West Yorkshire. Studied at Batley School of Art, Manchester School of Art and the Royal College of Art, graduating in 2012. His work is held in collections internationally.

Josh is a visiting lecturer specialising in drawing at Kingston University, UCA Farnham, The National Film and Television School and Goldsmiths.

“All my work finds its routes in drawing from observation. The shapes, forms and gestures collected in these drawings are the raw material I use to build my images. As I draw and paint, they become infused with my own ideas, experiences and memories.

I want to catch within the paintings some very specific, potent feelings that I find hard to describe but that occur at certain times throughout my life. I want to use light and space and the process of making paintings to recreate an idea of these feelings.”
