Nicholas Pace studied Painting at Gloucestershire College of Art & Design and the University of London (Postgraduate), for which he was awarded the Elizabeth T. Greenshields Scholarship for Representational Art.
As a postgraduate student, Pace was invited to join the Education team at the National Gallery, London, as a Freelance Lecturer.
Whilst painting and exhibiting his work, he also pursued a professional acting career, which spanned ten years.
During this time, as Creative Director of Yellow Chair Productions, he wrote, designed and performed stage productions based on the lives of great painters.
Venues included: The Art Institute of Chicago; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Cleveland Museum of Art, Ohio; National Gallery, London; Glasgow Citizens Theatre; Auckland Museum of Art, New Zealand and the Adelaide Festival, Australia.
Complimenting his theatre work, Pace also achieved acknowledgment as one of the UK’s leading proponents of old master painting techniques. He developed an authority on 18th century practices, working primarily on private commissions and through London auction houses such as Christie’s.
More recently, Pace has pursued making contemporary paintings that draw from both his theatrical experience and art historical expertise.
