Describing the importance of creative opportunities and artistic production as a healthy and positive outlet, the winner explained:

‘I have always been reasonably creative, but the limitations imposed on me by incarceration force a person to adapt and find new creative mediums in order to have that outlet. The coat was an experiment and a test to see how far I could push the use of a single medium. The question of ‘can I make a wearable article of clothing with cards and limited tools’ came to mind. Turns out the answer is yes! I’m hoping by sharing my pieces it inspires others to be creative and find their own unique outlet. Especially those with limited access to normal materials and mediums.’

Since 2013, ACS has supported the Koestler Trust, a leading prison arts charity in the United Kingdom that has been awarding and exhibiting artworks by offenders, detainees and secure patients for over 50 years.
