Cecil Beaton: 'Never a Bore...' at Chatsworth House
August 2, 2016
A fantastic exhibition of rarely-seen photographs of the late Dowager Duchess of Devonshire taken by her friend and ACS member Cecil Beaton is currently on display at Chatsworth House.
Beaton, renowned for his photographs of 20th-century figures such as politicians, artists and actors, was an early guest to Chatsworth and captured many candid scenes. Enigmatic portraits of his personal friendship with the Duchess and her impressive social circle are on display alongside rarely-seen material from the Devonshire Collection and Archive. The exhibition, which takes inspiration from Beaton’s famous remark “Perhaps the world’s second-worst crime is boredom; the first is being a bore” gives wonderful insight into the private life of Deborah Devonshire and her dazzling friends.
