Harriet Gillett: If Paris Was A Woman
September 20, 2025
Opening 25 September at Gallery Maison Bertaux, If Paris Was a Woman, curated by Hot Sheet and hosted by Hooligan Art Dealer, presents a new body of work by ACS Studio Prize 2025 finalist Harriet Gillett.

The exhibition explores the rhythms and poetics of city life through the lens of the contemporary flâneur. Cafés, theatres and side streets become portals into dream-like scenes, where memory, observation and imagination dissolve into one another. Figures emerge as ghostlike presences, half-seen, half-remembered, while colour and gesture create atmospheres that are both nostalgic and cinematic.

Borrowing its title from the 1996 documentary celebrating the women artists and writers of early twentieth-century Paris, the exhibition traces a dialogue between past and present, the ordinary and the ephemeral, the intimate and the collective.
