Spanning over 130 pieces, the exhibition charts the ACS member’s artistic evolution from the 1950s, focusing on key series that explore the intersection of the artist’s personal experiences and broader social themes. The works on display draw on narratives of oppression, autonomy and resilience. The exhibition brings together Rego’s paintings and a selection of paper-based works and hand-crafted dolls produced by the artist in the 2000s. Together, the pieces on display reflect a creative practice deeply attuned to the emotional and political complexities of human life.
‘Paula Rego: The Personal and The Political’ marks the second-ever retrospective of the ACS member’s work to take place in a German museum.
