Cedric Morris: Artist, Plantsman & Traveller
August 13, 2025
Now open at The Maltings in Berwick, Cedric Morris: Artist, Plantsman & Traveller, marks the first major presentation of Cedric Morris’s work in the North of England. The exhibition brings together paintings on loan from the Tate, the National Portrait Gallery, Gainsborough’s House and private collections.

Celebrated for his vibrant depictions of the natural world, the ACS member combined a painter’s sensitivity with a horticulturalist’s eye, cultivating rare plant species at Benton End, the Suffolk home and art school Morris co-founded with Arthur Lett-Haines. The exhibition traces the enduring legacy of their partnership, the botanical richness of the gardens they created and the influence of Benton End as a site of artistic and ecological exchange.
